01 — Why bespoke

A home office is not a piece of furniture.

It's a wall. A room. A height, a depth, a cable run, a heritage colour and a way of working. Free-standing desks and shelving never quite get there.

Bravo London builds every fitted home office to measure in our NW10 workshop and scribes each cabinet on site to the actual walls, cornice, skirting and ceiling — no cover strips, no visible gaps. The desk is built to your preferred working height; the cables run inside the joinery; the bookshelves rise to the ceiling; the cornice continues across the top.

The result reads as architecture, not furniture. A study wall, a library, an alcove desk or a concealed bedroom office that disappears at the end of the working day.

02 — Six home office configurations

From a concealed bedroom desk to a whole-room library.

Bespoke fitted home office full study wall with sage green Shaker cabinetry, oak desktop and integrated bookcases in a London townhouse

Full Study Wall

An entire wall as one integrated piece of joinery — desk, drawer pedestals, bookcase towers, printer cupboard and cable management. The most complete home office answer for a dedicated study room.

Best for: dedicated studies, single-room offices, library-office hybrids.

Bespoke fitted partners desk in heritage navy with oak desktop, leather inlay panel and integrated drawer pedestals each side

Partners Desk & Drawers

A free-standing-feel fitted desk with twin pedestals of drawers either side of a knee-hole, leather desktop inlay optional. The classic Victorian-study answer, scaled to the room.

Best for: studies, library-offices, period reception rooms.

Bespoke alcove home office between two chimney-breast alcoves with painted off-white Shaker cupboards and fitted desk

Alcove Home Office

A fitted desk built between the chimney breast and the side wall, with cupboards below and bookshelves above. Typically built as a matching pair across both alcoves of a London period reception room.

Best for: Victorian reception rooms, dual-purpose living-office spaces.

Concealed Bedroom Office

A complete home office — desk, shelves, pinboard, cable management, drawers — built behind a pair of full-height bifold cabinet doors. The office disappears at the end of the working day.

Best for: bedrooms, spare rooms, guest rooms doubling as offices.

03 — Bespoke vs free-standing

04 — Where fitted home offices work

Eight London homes made for fitted office joinery.

Victorian Terraces

Alcove desk runs in the reception room or a concealed bedroom office behind bifold doors in the principal bedroom — hand-painted Shaker scribed to the chimney breast.

Edwardian Family Homes

Full study walls in the rear reception or in a converted bay window — sage and heritage green painted joinery with brass library lights.

Georgian Town-Houses

Floor-to-ceiling library-office walls in the principal reception room — deep burgundy or heritage green, brass rail and ladder, partners desk.

Mansion Block Flats

Compact concealed bedroom office in a single-bed mansion flat — bifold doors hide a complete fitted desk and shelving against one wall.

New-Build Houses

Contemporary handleless slab desk run with integrated wall storage, monolithic painted finish, and cable management built into the wall.

Loft Conversions

Fitted desk and stepped shelving scribed to the roof pitch, tall eaves storage and dormer-window desk positioning — see /loft-fitted-wardrobes.

Side-Return Extensions

Fitted desk run along the side-return wall in the open-plan kitchen-diner, painted to match the kitchen joinery for visual continuity.

Home-Working Households

Twin alcove desk runs in opposite alcoves so two people can work in the same room without facing each other — a 2020-onwards Bravo London staple.

05 — Detail

Eight things to specify.

A fitted home office is the sum of small dimensional decisions — the desk height, the desktop depth, the knee-hole, the shelf pitch, the cornice continuation, the cable management. Bravo London draws each one with you at the design visit.

  • Desk Height

Made to your preferred seated height (typically 720–760mm) or standing height (1,050–1,150mm). Sit-stand desks use a Linak electric column built into the pedestal.

  • Desktop Depth

Typical fitted-desk depth is 600–700mm — deep enough for a 27-inch monitor on a stand with notebook space in front. We can go shallower in narrow alcoves.

  • Knee-Hole Width

Comfortable knee-hole width is 700–900mm. Wider for a chair with arms; narrower if the desk pedestal needs extra drawers.

  • Shelf Depth

Bookshelves are typically 280–320mm deep (standard hardback depth). Lower shelves for art books and folios are 380–420mm deep — designed shelf-by-shelf.

  • Adjustable Shelves

Standard shelf pitch is 32mm bookcase-system holes — invisible from the front, fully adjustable in the future as the book collection changes.

  • Cornice & Skirting

Original cornices and skirtings are scribed around. Where bookcases run floor-to-ceiling, the cornice is typically continued in painted MDF for a continuous line.

  • Ventilation

Printer cupboards, media compartments and electronics cabinets include passive ventilation cut-outs at base and top to prevent heat build-up.

  • Scribed to Period Walls

Out-of-plumb period walls are absorbed by hand-scribing the cabinet edge on site — no packing strips, no visible gaps against original plaster.

06 — Materials & finishes

Oak, walnut, leather and any heritage colour.

Cabinets and bookcases are built on a structural MDF substrate, sprayed and lacquered in our paint shop. Desktops are solid oak, solid walnut, leather-inlaid hardwood, painted MDF or stone. Brass library lights, cup-handles and library ladders are sourced from small UK foundries.

07 — The library-office

A whole-room library-office.

The Bravo London signature project — floor-to-ceiling painted bookcases on every wall, a partners desk in the centre of the room or a fitted desk against the window, brass library lights wired in advance and a brass rail and ladder for the upper shelves.

Deep heritage greens, navies and burgundies are the most popular library colours. Glazed cabinet doors for premium book storage, integrated drinks cabinets and concealed media are common upgrades. From around £14,500 for a small library; £22,000–£32,000 for a principal-room library-office.

08 — Interior fit-out

What you choose to fit inside the joinery.

The interior is specified to how you actually work — cable management, sit-stand columns, file drawers, printer cupboards, brass lights, glazed cabinet doors and library ladders in any combination.

Cable Management

Brass or oak desktop cable grommet, hidden cable tray under the desk, integrated power and USB outlets inside the pedestal and printer cupboard.

Sit-Stand Electric Desk

Linak or similar electric column built into the desk pedestal so the desktop raises and lowers — the surrounding joinery remains fully fitted.

Leather Desktop Inlay

Hand-stitched bridle-leather panel set into an oak or walnut desktop — the classic library partners-desk detail. Burgundy, oxblood, tan or black.

File Drawers

Full-extension soft-close file drawers in the desk pedestal with foolscap suspension rails — the right answer for paper-heavy households.

Printer Cupboard

A dedicated tall cupboard with a pull-out printer shelf, paper storage above, a power outlet inside, and a ventilation grille — the printer disappears.

Brass Library Lights

Integrated brass picture lights above each bookcase bay, wired in advance and switched from a single point — the defining detail of a Bravo London library.

Glazed Cabinet Doors

Glazed Shaker doors with brass knobs on selected upper bookcase bays — for premium book storage, ceramics and collected objects.

Brass Rail & Ladder

A continuous brass rail along the top of the bookcase wall with a brass library ladder on castors — for floor-to-ceiling library walls above 2,500mm.

09 — How Bravo London builds fitted offices

From first survey to perfectly fitted study wall.

  1. Step 01

    Free Design Visit

A Bravo London designer visits, measures the room, talks through how the office will actually be used — focused work, video calls, reading, occasional client meetings — and discusses configuration, desktop material, door style, heritage colour and brass hardware.

  2. Step 02

    Configuration & Desktop

Decide between configurations (full study wall, partners desk, alcove pair, concealed bifold, library-office) and between solid oak, walnut, leather-inlaid or painted desktops. Door style — hand-painted Shaker, slab handleless, panelled, glazed — confirmed at the visit.

  3. Step 03

    Itemised, VAT-Included Quote

A clear quote breaking down desk, pedestals, bookcases, printer cupboard, doors, painted finish, hardware, brass library lights, glazed panels, leather inlay and installation — VAT included, held for 60 days.

  4. Step 04

    Technical Survey

A second site visit confirms the room to ±1mm — wall plumb at multiple heights, floor level, ceiling height, cornice and skirting profile, electrical socket positions and any window or radiator constraints. Period rooms move; the technical survey is non-negotiable.

  5. Step 05

    Workshop Manufacture

Cabinets, drawers, bookcases and doors built at our NW10 workshop on a structural MDF substrate, sprayed and lacquered in our controlled-environment paint shop. Solid oak and walnut desktops cut, joined and hand-finished in our timber shop.

  6. Step 06

    Installation & Scribing

Bravo London's own installers fit the cabinets, scribe each one to the walls, ceiling and original skirting, fit the desktop, hang the doors, fit drawer fronts, wire brass library lights and walk you through care.

Bravo London craftsman installing and scribing a fitted home office bookcase against a London period wall

Installation is by Bravo London's own installers — never sub-contracted. Each cabinet is fitted, levelled, scribed to the walls and ceiling, the desktop fitted and joined, doors hung and adjusted on three-dimensional concealed hinges so the vertical reveals read as a continuous grid.

At handover we walk you through care — hand-painted lacquer is wiped with a soft microfibre cloth and warm water, oak and walnut desktops are re-oiled annually with hardwax oil, leather inlays are conditioned every six months. The painted finish can be lightly sanded and over-painted in a new heritage colour by any competent decorator.

12 — Across London

Fitted home offices for Victorian, Edwardian, Georgian and contemporary London.

Bravo London installs bespoke fitted home offices across all London postcodes — Victorian studies in Islington, Hampstead, Stoke Newington and Wimbledon; Edwardian family homes in Muswell Hill, Crouch End and Ealing; Georgian principal-room libraries in Marylebone, Belgravia, Bloomsbury and Greenwich; and contemporary mansion flats and new-builds across Notting Hill, Kensington and Chelsea.

Room proportions vary by period: Victorian studies are typically 3.0–3.8m wide with 2.7–3.0m ceilings; Edwardian rooms a touch wider; Georgian principal rooms the grandest with 3.2–3.6m ceilings ideal for floor-to-ceiling library walls. Every cabinet is built to the actual room, never to a standard module.

We also install across the Home Counties — Surrey, Berkshire and Essex — with the same all-in itemised quote. A small mileage surcharge for projects more than 25 miles from our NW10 workshop is shown clearly on the quote where it applies.

13 — Planning your fitted home office

A practical guide to specifying a bespoke fitted office.

Start with how you actually work. Focused solo work, frequent video calls, occasional client meetings, reading, paper-heavy admin, dual-monitor design work and creative tools each ask for a different desk and storage configuration. List the three things you do most days — that determines the desk depth, drawer layout, shelf depth and whether the office should be concealed.

Measure the room. The dimensions that drive the design are room width, room length, ceiling height, alcove depths, window positions, radiator positions and existing electrical socket positions. Bravo London's design visit confirms these, but a sketch with rough measurements helps the initial conversation.

Pick the configuration. Full study wall if you have a dedicated room. Alcove desk pair if the office shares a reception room. Concealed bifold if it shares a bedroom. Library-office if you collect books seriously. Partners desk if the room has the centre space and the budget.

Pick the desktop. Solid oak is the safe default — warm, hand finishable in your home in the future. Walnut for a richer tone. Leather inlay for the classic library look. Painted MDF for a fully painted monolithic scheme. Stone for a contemporary architectural office.

Pick the heritage colour. Off-whites recede; deep heritage greens and navies are the most popular library colours; burgundies and oxbloods read as classic library; considered greys sit between. We colour-match Farrow & Ball, Little Greene, Paint & Paper Library, Mylands, RAL and NCS at no extra cost.

Plan the cables. Decide where power needs to land — at the desk (always), inside the desk pedestal (for monitor and laptop power bricks), inside the printer cupboard, on top of the bookcases (for brass library lights), and any low-level sockets for desk lamps. Drop these in advance with your electrician.

Decide on concealment. A full home office can disappear behind a pair of bifold cabinet doors at the end of the working day. Worth specifying if the office shares a bedroom, a guest room or a reception room that doubles as an entertaining space.

Allow for installation. A compact alcove desk run installs in two to three days. A full study wall runs three to five days. A whole-room library-office with brass detailing runs five to ten days, plus painter follow-up. Every project is covered by a 10-year product and installation guarantee.

14 — FAQ

Answers, openly.

What is bespoke home office fitted furniture?
Bespoke home office fitted furniture is made-to-measure cabinetry, desks, shelving and storage designed around your room, working habits and interior style. Instead of freestanding furniture, everything is built to fit the available space precisely, including alcoves, chimney breasts, sloped ceilings and awkward corners.
How much does a bespoke fitted home office cost in London?
The cost depends on the size of the room, the amount of cabinetry, the finish, desktop material, lighting, cable management and any specialist features. A compact fitted desk and shelving area will usually cost less than a full wall-to-wall office or library. We provide a clear quotation after understanding the space, design and specification.
Can you build a home office in a bedroom or spare room?
Yes. Bedrooms and spare rooms are ideal for fitted home offices because the design can combine a desk, storage, wardrobes, shelving and display space without making the room feel crowded. We can also design the furniture so the room still works as a guest bedroom when needed.
Can you build a home office into an alcove?
Yes. Alcove offices are a smart way to turn unused recesses into practical workspace. We can build fitted desks, floating shelves, cupboards, drawers and cable access around the exact width and depth of the alcove.
Can you build a whole-room home library?
Yes. We design and install whole-room home libraries with fitted shelving, base cabinets, ladders, integrated lighting, reading areas and concealed storage. The design can be traditional, contemporary or matched to the period character of the property.
Do you handle cable management and power?
Yes. We can plan cable routes, desktop cable ports, hidden channels and access points for monitors, laptops, printers and chargers. Where new sockets, lighting or electrical work is required, this can be coordinated with a qualified electrician.
Can the desk be the right height for me?
Yes. The desk height, depth and leg clearance can be designed around your preferred working position, chair and equipment. We can also allow for monitor height, keyboard position and storage so the office feels comfortable for everyday use.
What desktop materials do you offer?
Desktop options can include painted timber, veneer, hardwood, laminate, compact laminate and other durable work surfaces. The best choice depends on the look you want, how heavily the desk will be used and whether you prefer a traditional or more contemporary finish.
Can you build the home office to match my fitted wardrobes?
Yes. We can match or complement existing fitted wardrobes using similar door styles, mouldings, handles, colours and proportions. This helps the office feel like part of the room rather than a separate addition.
Do you build fitted home offices in lofts and under sloping ceilings?
Yes. Lofts and sloping ceilings are well suited to bespoke fitted furniture because each piece can be made to follow the angle of the roofline. We can create low storage, angled shelving, integrated desks and cabinetry that makes better use of difficult spaces.
How long does a fitted home office installation take?
Installation time depends on the size and complexity of the project. A smaller fitted desk and shelving area may take a short installation, while a full room with cabinetry, lighting and detailed finishing will take longer. We confirm the expected programme before work begins.
Will it disturb original period features?
We design sensitively around original period features such as cornices, skirting boards, fireplaces, picture rails and uneven walls. Where possible, the furniture is detailed to respect the room’s character and avoid unnecessary disturbance.
Can the home office include a drinks cabinet or media wall?
Yes. A fitted home office can include lifestyle features such as a drinks cabinet, media wall, concealed television, printer cupboard, display shelving or hidden storage. These can be designed so the room works as both a workspace and a refined living area.
What heritage colours work for a home office?
Popular heritage-inspired choices include deep green, muted blue, warm taupe, soft off-white, charcoal, stone and rich earthy tones. The right colour depends on the natural light, flooring, wall colour and whether you want the office to feel calm, formal or dramatic.
Does Bravo London install home offices across London?
Yes. Bravo London designs and installs bespoke fitted home offices across London, including period homes, apartments, townhouses and modern properties. We can discuss your room, requirements and preferred style before preparing a tailored design and quotation.
